Platform Architecture and High-Voltage Charging

The 2026 Hyundai IONIQ 9 incorporates Hyundai’s E-GMP with an 800-volt electrical system standard. It is compatible with ultra-fast 350 kW DC charging stations, and includes an 11 kW onboard charger for Level II AC charging. Charging components and battery interface electronics use high-efficiency silicon carbide-based inverters to minimize energy loss.

The battery is rated at 110.3 kWh. It is a lithium-ion pack mounted low in the chassis to support balanced weight distribution. Charging time and peak rates are not yet finalized, but the vehicle is expected to support up to 80% charge within approximately 24 minutes under ideal conditions using 350 kW infrastructure. The vehicle also includes a rear quarter passenger-side charge port with powered open and close functionality.

Powertrain and Driveline Configurations

All variants of the 2026 Hyundai IONIQ 9 use permanent-magnet synchronous motors. The rear-wheel drive model produces 160 kW. The dual-motor all-wheel drive setup includes a 160 kW rear motor and either a 70 kW or 160 kW front motor, depending on trim. Power is delivered through a single-speed reduction gear transmission with electronic shift-by-wire control.

The drive mode system allows drivers to switch between Eco, Normal, Sport, Snow, and customizable My Mode configurations. Each mode adjusts throttle response, steering effort, and regenerative braking levels. Steering is managed by a column-mounted motor-driven power steering system with an overall ratio of 16.02 and 2.93 turns lock-to-lock. The curb-to-curb turning diameter is measured at 41 feet.

Suspension, Braking, and Body Construction

The front suspension system uses MacPherson® struts with gas dampers. The rear employs a five-link multi-link design, also with gas dampers. This layout is combined with a unibody chassis built from a mix of advanced high-strength steel and high-tensile steel for structural rigidity and crash performance.

The braking system includes ventilated disc brakes at the front, sized at 360 mm by 30 mm. Rear discs measure 345 mm by 20 mm. Regenerative braking paddles are mounted on the steering column, and the vehicle features an active hydraulic booster integrated with the brake assist system. The electric parking brake includes an automatic hold function. The ABS integrates electronic brake-force distribution and traction management.

Dimensions and Aerodynamics

The 2026 Hyundai IONIQ 9 has a wheelbase of 123.2 inches and an overall length of 199.2 inches. Width measures 78 inches, and height is 70.5 inches. Minimum ground clearance is 6.9 inches. Front and rear overhangs are 34.6 inches and 41.3 inches respectively. The coefficient of drag is listed at 0.269, supported by active lower front grille air flaps and sealed underbody panels.

Tire sizes range from 255/60R19 to 285/45R21 depending on trim. The wheels include 19-, 20-, and 21-inch alloy options. Flush door handles and aero-style wipers are included across all trims. Roof side rails, solar front glass, a laminated windshield, and acoustic glass in the first and second rows come standard.

Advanced Driver Assistance and Safety Systems

The 2026 Hyundai IONIQ 9 includes an extensive array of standard safety systems across all trims. These include Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist with pedestrian, cyclist, junction turning, lane change, and evasive steering functions. Highway Driving Assist 2 is also standard, enabling lane centering and semi-automated highway cruising under driver supervision.

Other features include Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist, Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist, and Lane Keeping Assist with Lane Following Assist. Smart Cruise Control with Stop & Go, Driver Attention Warning, and Forward Attention Warning systems are also standard. Higher trims add Blind-Spot View Monitor, Surround View Monitor, Parking Collision Avoidance Assist, and Remote Smart Parking Assist 2, enabled via connected services.

Interior safety includes 3-point seatbelts with pretensioners for all outboard seats, power window lockout, and child safety locks. The airbag system includes standard frontal, side-impact, curtain, and knee airbags, alongside occupant detection and rear seat monitoring via radar-based Advanced Rear Occupant Alert.

Functionalities and Utility

The 2026 Hyundai IONIQ 9 is designed for practicality in long-range and urban applications. Luggage capacity is 21.9 cubic feet behind the third row, expanding to 46.7 cubic feet behind the second row and 86.9 cubic feet behind the first row with both rear rows folded.

Vehicle-to-load functionality is built into the cargo area, enabling bidirectional power delivery for external devices. The 12-volt electrical system powers auxiliary functions, while the vehicle’s heat pump supports energy-efficient climate management. Drive modes, regenerative braking levels, and steering calibration adjust dynamically based on road input and user preferences.
